Jeanne lost her hearing as an infant to meningitis. She never let this slow her down. As a young girl, she worked on the family farm. This work included herding livestock on horseback and milking cows. As a child she attended schools in Montreal and in Michigan. She graduated in 1946 from the Michigan School for the Deaf (MSD) where she was captain of the Basketball Team.

Shortly after graduating from MSD she relocated to Washington, DC to take a job with the State Department where she helped manage secret overseas documents. She also attended classes at Gallaudet University. Although she missed her family in North Dakota, she fell in love with city life, blue crabs, the milder DC winters, and a young sailor named Bob Colbert.

Bob and Jeanne were married in 1951 in Washington, DC. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Hyattsville, MD. This is where they raised their four children ; Larry, Lynda, Alan and Tim.Bob and Jeanne have three grandchildren; Matt (Justine) Sillers, Stephanie Sillers and Daniel (Lindsey) Colbert, two great grandchildren, Camden Colbert and Parker Sillers , as well as, one son-in-law Jim Sillers.

Jeanne had a zest for life and loved social interaction with others. She was always ready for a party, dinners out, happy hours and family gatherings. She enjoyed watching the Redskins and old movies. Her favorite TV channel was Turner Classic Movies (TCM). She was an outstanding cook and had a fondness for Hagen Daz coffee ice cream and chocolate bars; jig saw puzzles were her favorite hobby.

Jeanne relocated to Myrtle Beach with Tim and Larry this past August. She pent her last months enjoying life amongst the palm trees. The evening before she passed away she enjoyed happy hour and a coconut shrimp dinner with Tim and Larry. She was in the best of spirits.

Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents, siblings , husband Bob and son Alan.
